Andros Island Annual Crab Fest

May 01, 2017

Keeping tradition is one of the many things that makes Andros Island such a special place to visit. For many years, two very important inhabitants have shared this dreamy, sandy shore — the crabs and the crab catchers. The people of Andros Island are known throughout the Bahamas for their harvesting and culinary expertise, especially the tasty preparation of yummy little crustaceans they call land crabs.

Every second weekend in June since 1997, the island has celebrated the culture of crab catching with the Annual Crab Fest. This years festival will be held at Queens Park in Fresh Creek beginning on Thursday, June 15th and ending on Saturday, June 17th. The festival will showcase land crabs cooked 101 different ways, live music, cultural exhibitions and the main event — the releasing of the crabs!

Be sure to make it out for the opening ceremony and you too can become a honorary Androsian crab catcher.
