Spa & Wellness Weekend
Kamalame Cay, our 96-acre private island resort in the Bahamas, will launch a new Weekend Spa & Wellness program in 2008. The three-night/four-day retreats will offer guests a tropical mini spa getaway highlighting daily yoga on the beach, meditation and chanting sessions and optional life coaching. Additionally, one of the highlights of the program will be pampering treatments in our 2,000-square-foot aqua spa nestled at the end of a 200-foot pier.
The Spa & Wellness weekends will be hosted by New York City-based Jo Hook, founder of Avatar Yoga Retreats and Body as an Instrument, a holistic fitness program. A native of Sweden, Ms. Hook graduated from the Jivamukti Teacher Training Program in 2001 and has led yoga retreats to Mexico, Costa Rica, The Adirondacks and Mongolia, among many other countries. In addition to her yoga teachings, she also specializes in meditation coaching and Kirtan chanting, both of which she incorporates into her retreats. Her commitment to the areas of health and well-being helps to inspire and lead her students to live well balanced and extraordinary lives. Most recently Ms. Hook created the Lakshmi NYC line of essential oil based fragrances and body care.
Complimenting the yoga program, the Spa & Wellness weekends will introduce guests to our spa, which features five treatment rooms, each suspended over the sea with walls of windows that open to expansive ocean views. A full menu of massage and body/facial treatments are available, including the Coconut Body Glow, which utilizes a fresh coconut scrub, the Seaweed Botanical Wrap incorporating a gentle exfoliating sea salt scrub followed by a detoxifying seaweed wrap, or the adventurous Spiced Rum Wrap which infuses a warming spice and herb body masque followed by a gentle, cooling massage.

Here at Kamalame Cay we feature nineteen “beach chic” accommodations ranging from charming marina rooms to Balinese inspired cottages and villa suites. Throughout the Great House, a welcoming gathering place where guests enjoy evening cocktails and all meals, the style evokes 19th century British with art, antiques and collection of Bahamian furnishings. Weekly, candles and Tiki torches move from the Great House to the beach for an alfresco, Bahamian-style banquet with a live “rake & scrape” band that plays infectious island melodies.
We also now boast a new, fully-equipped PADI dive center for SCUBA enthusiasts who wish to explore the endless underwater adventures and an extensive fishing program offering fly-fishing retreats and deep sea fishing excursions.
Our resort is a 20-minute drive from the Andros Town Airport serviced by charter or scheduled service from Nassau and Fort Lauderdale. Transportation to Kamalame Cay is provided by taxi and a three-minute ferry ride.
